Faithful Followers‏

by: Reverend Jon Eltringham for Saint Michaels Chapel

Paul. Silas and Timothy, To the church the Thessalonians :

I pray that God will be kind to you and bless you with peace. We thank God for you and always mention you in our prayers. Each time we pray,we tell God our Father about your faith and loving work and about your firm hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. My dear friends God loves you, and we know he has chosen you to be his people. When we told you the good news, it was with the power and assurance that come from the Holy Spirit and not simply with words. You knew what kind of people we were and how we helped you.So when you accepted the message , you followed our example and the example of the Lord. You suffered but the Holy Spirit made you glad….. 1 Thessalonians: 1-6 CEV

Paul started thechurch in Thessalonia; he was working hard to support himself. The church itself had problems some of it members had quit their jobs since they thought the Lord would soon return.Others were worried that relatives and friends had already passed away before Christs return. A lot of the people in northern Greece at that time worshiped idols before becoming Christians but many of them would go out and spread the message of our Lord some of the folks in Thessalonia began to oppose Paul and he had to escape to Athens . Paul sent his young friend Timothy to go see how the Christians were doing and report back to him Timothy gave Paul good reports of their faith and love.We still see those types of things today in the world, our lives are based on our faith we as humans need assurance that someone is watching out or over us. We are true examples of faithful followers.

But there are those out there who still worship idols and pagan gods how do we as Christians change this ? Let us go out in to the streets and teach . there will be those who will hate us and shut the doors in our face or say its nothing more then a story or lies. Let us build our house upon the rock the holy word as our stone and our faith as the mortar Pauls final instructions are, Always be joyful and never stop praying. Whatever happens keep thanking God because of Jesus Christ. That is what God wants you to do.

Let us pray

Almighty and everlasting God in Christ you have revealed your glory among the nations. Preserve the works of your mercy , that your church throughout the world may persevere with steadfast faith in the confession of your name. Through Jesus Christ our Lord who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit one God for ever and ever Amen..
